Texmate Inc. is looking for a sales representative in either an entry level or mid-level (sales management) position.
The responsibilities of a sales representative would include proactive customer outreach (either from independent research, accessing prior customers in our database, or use of a lead generation service), developing customer relationships, making and closing sales, producing sales projections for quarterly/annual review, collecting customer feedback to assist in product refinement or new product development, and participation in industry and government trade shows representing Texmate.
Because our industry is niche, it is not expected for a candidate to have prior experience in this specific field, but existing understanding of creating a sales system and implementing a CRM platform along with aptitude in providing live feedback to our dev team as they work on our in-house ERP system is mandatory- showing relevant coursework or prior experience will be expected, ideally with examples. On-site training during an onboarding period to familiarize our representative with our product line, customers, competitors, and the industry will be provided.
Minimum expectations:
- Basic computer/software skills - can use spreadsheet software, send e-mails without machine learning assistance, operate a Windows computer.
- Good interpersonal skills and an understanding of the psychology of selling, closing, along with a genuine interest in other people and solving their problems. A good candidate should not be afraid of picking up the phone and reaching out to customers.
- Prior experience (either in professional work or coursework) with setting up a live functioning CRM platform and sales system - this can be as simple as a spreadsheet tracking e-mails/customers along with use of our current CRM system, but whatever is produced must be trainable in an efficient way to other staff.
- Aptitude for independent work - Texmate is a small company with fewer than 15 employees. Sales staff will need to be able to work effectively without extensive monitoring; support for technical or managerial decisions will be available, but the individual staffer must have discipline and drive to operate primarily alone until further sales staff are hired.
- Aggression - Sales staff must be dogged in their pursuit and not willing to “leave fruit on the vine” without a strategy. A bonus structure is in place to encourage sales staff that are proactive, with extra priority given to longer term contract/supplier negotiation or government sales.
- Stewardry - Candidate will need to maintain their “department” budget and be both accountable and responsible for expenditures. Larger investments such as business trips, trade show participation, etc. will need to be proposed to upper management and executed primarily by the candidate within budget.
Job Functions:
- Sales planning - Analyze existing sales and customer information to produce forecasts by industry and product type. Develop customer relationships through social activities. Develop, execute, and review sales performance for distributors or larger customers. Research industries, customers, or territories that are suitable for development- create and execute a business plan for capturing these targets. Regularly report to upper management explaining direction, tasks, projects.
- Sales execution - Meet or exceed sales goals. Develop new customer accounts, investigate existing accounts for new opportunities, schedule calls with customers, visit customers' sites and installations physically, host visiting customers, participate and lead sales meetings. Learn practical use of Texmate's product lines and their strengths and weaknesses. Train customers in the application of Texmate products. Willing to travel up to 50%.
- Product development research - Capture market feedback for both existing products and requests for new products. Bring back field experience and practical information for Texmate's upper management and engineering team to help assist direction of future product development. Be a fresh set of eyes on new products and identify benefits and drawbacks that an end user may find with said products.
- Customer support - Assist customers that need help or have technical requests.
This position, depending on individual aptitude, has a high potential for growth. Earlier than usual promotion along a career track along with extra/alternative compensation is entirely possible depending on the candidate's initiative and success in facilitating Texmate's growth. The position is on-site at Texmate's main office in Carlsbad, California. Longer-term provisions for remote work or a mixed office schedule are possible provided the candidate has established a successful track record.
